How ATS systems actually filter your resume

Applicant tracking systems don't read your resume the way a recruiter does. They parse it for specific keywords and score it against the job description. If those keywords don't match closely enough, your resume gets filtered out before anyone sees it. This isn't a secret, but most people still send the same static resume to every job.

The fix is keyword alignment. Not stuffing random words in, but making sure the language in your resume reflects the language in the job posting. Job titles matter especially. Research from Jobscan found that aligning your resume title to the job title can produce up to a 10.6x higher interview rate. That's not a small effect.

What Breeze Apply rewrites on each application

Before submitting each application, Breeze Apply reads the job title and description, identifies the most relevant keywords, and rewrites three parts of your resume:

  • Headline: updated to match the exact job title or closest equivalent so ATS parsers score a direct match.
  • Summary: rewritten to incorporate the top keywords from the job description naturally, without sounding forced.
  • Skills section: adjusted to surface the tools, technologies, and competencies the job specifically asks for.

The rest of your resume stays exactly as you wrote it. Breeze Apply only touches the parts that most affect ATS scoring, so your work history and achievements remain in your own voice.

The problem with a single static resume

If you're applying to a mix of roles, say software engineer at one company and senior developer at another, a single resume will score poorly on both. The titles are different. The skill emphasis is different. The tools mentioned in the descriptions are different. Your one resume can't be optimally keyword-matched for all of them at once.

Breeze Apply solves this by treating each application independently. You can also upload up to three base resumes for different role families, and the system automatically selects the best-matching one before optimizing it for each specific job. This works well if you're open to both engineering and product roles, or both data science and analytics positions.

Your optimized resumes are always available

Every application you submit through Breeze Apply saves the optimized resume version in your application history. You can download any of them at any time. This means you can review what was sent to each company, reuse particularly good versions, and stay on top of exactly how you've been represented.

The whole system is available to try for free. No credit card required to get started.
